A. Dale McMurtrey came to work for Mr. Summers in 1948. Dale and his wife, Shirley, lived in the home with Mr. Summers and helped continue the competent and caring funeral service started by Mr. Summers. In addition to handling 200 funeral calls a year, Dale and Shirley operated an ambulance service out of the funeral home. Mr. McMurtrey and his wife purchased the business from Mr. Summers in 1956.
![]() By 1980, Mr. McMurtrey had bought and remodeled the Nazarene Church that was located at 2nd and State Streets in Eagle, Idaho, a nearby community to Boise. This newly remodeled funeral home became Summers Funeral Homes, Eagle Chapel. The McMurtrey family operated the business until 1986. In keeping with the family tradition that Mr. Summers had started, the McMurtrey family sold the Summers Funeral Homes business to employees of the firm: David B. Yraguen, with the business since 1977, and James B. Maguire, with the business since 1980. In 1991, Summers Funeral Homes, Inc. built a third full-service funeral home in Mountain Home, Idaho, 40 miles southeast of Boise, Idaho. This mortuary is adjacent to the Mountain Home Cemetery. The facility serves Elmore County and Owyhee County. Jim Maguire and Dave Yraguen decided that the Boise facility needed to be updated to meet the changing needs of their clients. This modern and premier mortuary facility now has a full service elevator to serve all three levels of the building. In keeping with Mr. Summers' tradition of meeting the needs of the grieving family, the suites that Mr. Summers had first lived in were converted into reception areas where family members can gather after funeral services. These rooms are also used for grief support groups that serve the Ada county area. This major renovation of the Boise Chapel was completed in the fall of 1995. Summers Funeral Homes, Boise, Idaho, is now a 16,000 square foot facility, yet it still retains the personal touch and caring for a family making funeral arrangements for a loved one.Soon after the Boise Chapel renovation, Mr. Maguire and Mr. Yraguen closed the Eagle facility to build a new funeral facility and crematorium in nearby Meridian, Idaho. James Maguire was killed in an accident in April of 2000. Mr. Yraguen decided to go ahead with the plans for the Ustick Chapel in Meridian and it was completed on February 14th of 2001. ![]() The new Ustick Chapel is a state-of-the-art facility, but still retains the home-like atmosphere that is so important to us, here at Summers. Our goal is to provide a funeral home that doesn't feel like a funeral home. Mr. Yraguen, and the rest of the Summers Funeral Homes staff continue the strong tradition of competent and caring service began by Mr. Summers in 1911. Summers Funeral Homes have excellent reputations in the Treasure Valley community. The staff provides personal service in a compassionate manner. Summers Funeral Homes of the Treasure Valley continually strive to be one of the leaders in the funeral industry. They do this by offering the greatest value and personal attention to the families. |
